SAN MARCOS - For the second time in as many days, Texas State used a two-out two-RBI double to defeat Northwestern State and improve its conference winning streak to 14 games.

Ashton Peters' double to left center field in the bottom of the third inning broke a scoreless tie and proved to be enough, as the Bobcats held off Northwestern State for the 3-0 victory.

Texas State (28-13, 14-1 SLC) had its first scoring threat early in the first.

With two outs and no runners on, three consecutive singles from Kristin Gunter, Katie Ann Trahan and Alex Newton loaded the bases for the `Cats. All three runners were left stranded, as Peters flew out to deep right field to end the inning.

The Bobcats would light up the scoreboard first, plating two runs in the bottom half of the third.

In almost the identical scenario as the first inning, back-to-back singles from Trahan and Newton with two outs, put the `Cats in scoring position. This time, Peters came through with the clutch double that scored both runners and put Texas State up 2-0.

The Bobcats would tack on another run in the fifth, as Trahan sent a solo shot to deep left center field that nearly reached the train tracks.

Northwestern State failed to cross the plate for the second time in the weekend series, as they were shutout in Sunday's series finale, 3-0.

The pitching duo of Sarah Lancour and Trahan has been solid, with both pitchers combining for 12 plus wins and 107 or more strikeouts.

Trahan had another solid day in the circle, striking out seven and only allowing two hits en route to her 16th victory of the season and seventh shutout.

Trahan carried a perfect game through 5.2 innings of play, until Sarina Noack's infield single broke it up. The runner looked to be out, but the umpire ruled that Noack beat out the throw by less than a step.

Leading the way for the Bobcat offense were Trahan, Peters and Newton. Peters was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, while Trahan and Newton were a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate.

Texas State will step out of conference play for a midweek rematch with the No. 1 Texas Longhorns on Wednesday, April 12 in Austin. The `Cats will then try to hold their top spot in the SLC standings, traveling to Texas-Arlington for a weekend series April 14 and 15.
