Texas State used a four-run third inning and Katie Ann Trahan's 13 strikeout performance to cruise past Northwestern State in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Bobcat Field.
Texas State got on the board first, plating four runs in the bottom half of the third. After an Amy Krueger walk and an Amy Hromadka single, Kristin Gunter's double to right field gave the `Cats an early 2-0 lead.
Two batters later, Alex Newton's home run over the left field fence, stretched the Bobcat lead to 4-0.
The Bobcats would tack on a single run in the fourth and one in the sixth off Ali McCormack's pinch hit home run to left center field for the 6-0 victory.
Gunter had the hot bat for the Bobcats, going 3-for-4 with three doubles and three RBIs.
Trahan improved to 15-7 on the year, earning her sixth shutout while scattering four hits and striking out 13 Lady Demons.
First pitch of game two is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start.
