Box Score

CORPUS CHRISTI - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi snapped a 14-game losing streak and won its first two home games of the season, edging past Texas State 1-0 in eight innings in game one and earning the twinbill sweep with a 6-3 victory in game two.

Freshman pitcher Amanda Foster picked up both wins for the Islanders, going eight innings and tossing a one-hitter in game one and entering in middle-relief to pick up the win in the series finale.

Texas State (30-17, 16-2 SLC) could only manage one hit in the opening game of the afternoon, a leadoff single from catcher Karen Taylor in the top of the third inning.

The first game of the afternoon would go into an extra frame, as TAMUCC picked up two of its six hits in the bottom half of the eighth inning to plate the game-winning run.

Foster held the `Cats to one hit to pick up her fourth win of the season and the Islanders first home win.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Islanders jumped on the scoreboard early, crossing the plate three times in the bottom half of the first.

After consecutive singles from Erica Armenta and Andrea Simancas put runners on first and second with no outs, TAMUCC loaded the bases when Andrea Gonzalez was hit-by-a-pitch from Sarah Lancour. Lauren Peters would follow two batters later with a two-RBI single up the middle to give the Islanders a 2-0 edge and then a Crystal Russell groundout scored Gonzalez to push the lead to 3-0.

Texas State would respond in the visitor half of the fifth, plating three runs to knot the score at 3-3.

With one away in the inning, Chelsea Giroux doubled to right field, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored off a Tamara Keller single to cut the lead to 3-1. Amy Hromadka followed with a single and Ryan Kos reached on a fielder's choice to score Keller. Kristin Gunter's groundout to third scored Hromadka to even the score.

The game wouldn't stay tied for long, as TAMUCC rallied for three runs of its own in the bottom of the inning to win game two of the doubleheader 6-3 and sweep the `Cats.

The Islanders were led offensively by Laura Peters, as she went 2-for-3 with four RBIs.

For Texas State, Hromadka was 3-for-4, while Alex Newton, Ali McCormack, Giroux and Keller all recorded a single hit in the loss.

Texas State will host its last home series of the season this weekend, as they welcome the Nicholls State Lady Colonels to Bobcat Field for a three-game set.

First pitch of Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m., with Sunday's series finale also slated for a 1 p.m. start time. At the conclusion of Sunday's game, the three graduating seniors will be recognized as part of senior day at Bobcat Field.
