SAN ANTONIO -
Texas State tallied seven runs on 14 hits in Sunday's series finale at Roadrunner Field to defeat UTSA 7-5, and improve its conference winning streak to 11 games.
Texas State overcame a 3-0 deficit in the first inning off two UTSA home runs and held off a late-inning rally from the Roadrunners to preserve the series sweep.
The Bobcats (24-12, 11-1 SLC) had seven different batters with a hit, including five with a multi-hit performance.
Ashton Peters and Katie Ann Trahan both went 3-for-4 while Kristin Gunter was 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Tamara Keller and Amy Hromadka rounded out the multi-hit action with two hits a piece.
UTSA (16-11, 10-5) jumped out to a quick lead in the first when Aimee Murray and Brittany Cantu hit their seventh and tenth home runs of the season to take the early lead.
Texas State would respond in the third, plating the three tying runs on five consecutive hits. After Keller's leadoff double, Amy Krueger, Hromadka, Gunter and Trahan would all follow with singles.
The lead would increase to 5-3 for the `Cats in the fourth, when Trahan's two-out two-RBI single to center field scored Keller and Ryan Kos.
UTSA headed into the bottom half of the seventh trailing 7-3 after Texas State added two more runs in the sixth.
The Roadrunners pushed for a late-inning rally when Stacey Gillespie homered to score Rachel Rackley and cut the lead to 7-5, but Sarah Lancour picked up two of her eight strikeouts on the final two batters to win her fifth straight decision.
Texas State will return home April 5 to host non-conference opponent Houston in a doubleheader, its last non-conference home opponent of the season. The games were originally scheduled for 5 and 7 p.m., but were moved forward to 3 and 5 p.m. to compensate for travel time.
