Box Score

SAN MARCOS - Texas State hit three home runs, including the third of the season for David Wood in a 10-4 win over Louisiana-Monroe Sunday at Bobcat Field.

Wood's home run was part of a 4-for-5, four-RBI outing, while Thomas Field and Cassidy Dresch hit back-to-back homers in the sixth inning to complete a three-run comeback after the `Cats fell behind 4-1.

Texas State (14-19, 10-5 SLC) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, as Dresch led-off with a single to left.

Kyle Jones followed with a single and advanced to second when the ball was misplayed by Indian centerfielder Andy Jones. Dresch came around from first on the play for the game's first run.

Louisiana-Monroe (5-21, 4-6) regrouped in the top of the second when Josh Morrison evened the score with the first of two ULM home runs, tying the game at 1-1, and the Indians would take the lead in the third, opening the inning with back-to-back walks drawn by Matt Angel and Travis Drader.

Both runners moved up a base a batter later on a sacrifice bunt, and the Indians took their first lead when Jones grounded out to short, scoring Angel from third.

ULM starting pitcher Ben Soignier added to the lead by blasting a two-run homer to left center to put the Indians on top 4-1, but Texas State stayed close in the fourth, as Cody Merrell crossed on Dawid Bednarek's sacrifice fly to make the score 4-2.

The Bobcat rally continued into the fifth inning, tying the game with back-to-back homers by Field and Dresch. Field's home run was his second in the series, while Dresch's long-ball was his first since going deep in the 2005 season against Louisiana-Lafayette.

Jones then reached base on an error by the ULM shortstop and moved to second on a single by Wood.

Aaron Garza drew a walk to load the bases, and with two outs in the inning, Dawid Bednarek ripped a single at Angel, the Indian third baseman. Angel juggled the ball and was unable to beat Wood to the bag at third, enabling Jones to score and putting the `Cats on top 5-4.

Dresch continued the Bobcat surge in the sixth, reaching on a one-out double and scoring on Luke Cannon's RBI double to right that made the score 6-4.

Cannon's RBI was followed by Merrell's second hit-by-pitch of the game, and with two runners on, Wood hammered a ball over the right-field wall to put Texas State up 9-4.

Texas State's final run came in the eighth, as Cannon drew a walk and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Merrell. Wood singled through the right side with the infield drawn in for his fourth RBI of the game, as Cannon crossed from second to put the `Cats on top 10-4.

Eight Bobcat batters posted hits in the win, as Dresch recorded his second-straight three-hit game by going 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Cannon and Merrell each scored twice in the game.

B.J. Boening picked up the win for Texas State to level his record at 1-1, while Soignier took the loss for ULM to fall to 0-4. Justin Fiske picked up his second save of the weekend and third of the season, tossing the final four innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out six.

Texas State continues conference play next weekend at Northwestern State, opening a four-game road trip at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Natchitoches, La.
