St. Edward's (27-16) jumped on top in the first on a lead-off home run by Bradley Goldsmith, but the Bobcats answered with three in the bottom of the inning on Keel's three-run homer to left that gave the `Cats a 3-1 lead.

In the second, Lance Schramm, who walked and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt, crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly-out to center by Kyle Jones that put Texas State up 4-1.

Garza would add to the lead in the third with a lead-off solo shot, and the `Cats scored two more in the inning on singles by Guest and Cassidy Dresch to go up 7-1.

St. Edward's fired back in the fifth, scoring on a Goldsmith sac fly, but Texas State would further extend its lead in the bottom of the sixth when Wood hit an opposite-field, two-run home run to left center to make the lead 9-2.

The Hilltoppers climbed to within four runs in the seventh, plating three in the frame on a pair of RBI base hits and a sacrifice fly that brought the score to 9-5.

Texas State would leap ahead for good in the bottom of the stretch inning, beginning with a pair of lead-off walks by Dresch and Jones, followed by an RBI single to center from Keel that put the Bobcats on top 10-5.

Merrell added to the advantage one batter later, blasting a 2-1 pitch over the left-field wall for a 13-5 lead through seven complete.

St. Edward's scratched out two runs in the top of the eighth on a Bobcat throwing error and an RBI single, but Guest delivered the final punch in the bottom of the inning, knocking his first-career home run over the wall in left to go up 15-7.

Keel finished the night 3-for-5 at the plate, while Garza and Adam Witek each put up 2-for-5 outings in the eight-run win. Seven Bobcat batters carded at least one RBI in the win, while ten batters crossed the plate at least once, led by Keel's three runs scored.
