ARLINGTON - In the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, Texas-Arlington outlasted Texas State 2-1 in 10 innings to even the series at one game each and drop the Bobcats to their first conference loss in 15 games.

The rubber match of the three-game series was set for a 4:30 p.m. start time and is currently underway.

In a game that lasted almost three hours and produced a combined 16 hits, neither team could manage a run until the international tie-breaker rule came in effect in the top half of the 10th inning.

Texas State (29-15, 15-2 SLC) had its first scoring threat of the game in the top half of the fifth inning.

After Ryan Kos went down on strikes, three consecutive singles from Jill Kloesel, Amy Krueger and Amy Hromadka put runners in scoring position. Laura Jones however, would force the next two Bobcat hitters to groundout to end the threat.

Texas-Arlington (26-14, 14-4) nearly put the game away in the bottom of the seventh.

The Mavericks got back-to-back singles from Autumn Petrino and Amanda Swofford to leadoff the inning. A sacrifice bunt from Lacey Leadbetter moved the runners to second and third with one out and then an Amanda Brown walk loaded the bases.

Sarah Lancour (12-8) was left in a serious jam, but managed to get April Clougherty and Courtni Anderson to pop up in the infield to send the game to extra innings.

In the extra frames, Texas State broke the scoreless tie in the 10th when Kloesel got a free pass from third to home on a passed ball by Leadbetter to give the `Cats a slight 1-0 lead.

The UTA bottom half of the inning found Clougherty standing on second when Katie Jones delivered an RBI double to left center field that scored Clougherty and knotted the game at 1-1.

The Mavericks delivered the final blow when Dee Jay Nelson's two-out single to center field scored Jones to complete the thrilling 2-1 win for UTA.

The Bobcats will aim for the series win in game two of Saturday's doubleheader.
