ARLINGTON - On the heels of Katie Ann Trahan's one-hitter and a two-run fifth for Texas State, the Bobcats increased their lead in the Southland Conference standings to three games, while extending their overall conference winning-streak to 15 games.

Texas State (29-14, 15-1) used back-to-back RBI singles from Ashton Peters and Karen Taylor in the top of the fifth inning to upend second-place Texas-Arlington, 2-0.

The game remained scoreless through the first four innings of play, until the Bobcats had the first scoring threat of the game in the fifth.

After an Alex Newton leadoff double to center field, Peters singled to score Newton and then advanced to second on an error by the right fielder. Jetta Weinheimer entered the game to pinch run for Peters and scored a batter later on Taylor's single, giving the `Cats a 2-0 edge.

Texas-Arlington (25-14, 13-4) could only manage one hit due to another brilliant pitching performance from Trahan. The senior from Magnolia, Texas, struck out eight batters and scattered four walks to pick up her eighth shutout of the season and 17th win.

Texas State will look to extend its overall lead in the SLC on Saturday, as the series concludes with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

At the conclusion of the three-game series with UTA, Texas State will play its last non-conference games of the season, when they face off with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in an April 20 doubleheader.

Texas State will then host its final home series of the season, playing host to Nicholls State April 22-23 at Bobcat Field in San Marcos.
