AUSTIN - In front of 1,111 fans at McCombs Field on Wednesday night, the No. 1 ranked Texas Longhorns earned the series split thanks to Megan Willis' RBI-single in the bottom of the sixth inning that put the `Horns on top, 1-0.

The Longhorns had the first scoring threat in the bottom half of the third, after a Crystal Saenz double off the left field wall left the `Horns with a runner on second and one out. Desiree Williams followed with a shot to deep left, but Jill Kloesel dove to her left to keep the game scoreless.

The Bobcats threatened in the top of the sixth, putting runners on first and second with one out. That's all the `Cats could manage, as Meagan Denny retired Amy Hromadka and Kristin Gunter on strikes to retire the side.

Texas lit up the scoreboard first, in the bottom of the sixth. With two runners on and one out, Willis sent the first pitch from Sarah Lancour through the left side of the infield that scored Williams from second base and put the Longhorns on top, 1-0.

The final three batters for Texas State were retired in order, as Denny picked up her 16th win of the season and fourth complete-game shutout.

Lancour picked up the loss for the Bobcats, scattering five hits and allowing one run to drop to 12-7 on the year.

Texas State will resume Southland Conference action this weekend, traveling to Texas-Arlington for a three-game set at Allen Saxe Field in Arlington.
