COLLEGE STATION -
Texas State produced five two-out runs, and eight Bobcat pitchers combined to beat Texas A&M 5-1 Tuesday at Olsen Field in College Station.
Texas State (17-20) completed its first-ever season sweep of the Aggies, while Texas A&M (19-17) managed only four hits in the game, two of which came in the ninth inning.
Dawid Bednarek doubled twice in a 2-for-4 outing while recording an RBI and scoring once in the game, while Pat Crumpton scored once and led the team with two RBIs in a 1-for-4 night at the plate.
The Bobcats attacked with a two-out rally in the fourth, starting the inning with David Wood's single through the right side and a two-out walk by Heath Keel.
Crumpton then drew a pair of strikes in the next at bat but managed to lift a 1-2 offering into the left field gap, scoring both runners to give Texas State a 2-0 lead.
Bednarek followed with another double on a ball at the warning track that landed on the left-field chalk line, scoring Crumpton to put the `Cats up 3-0.
Texas A&M would threaten in the sixth drawing a pair of lead-off walks and advancing the runners to second and third on a right-side ground-out, but Bobcat reliever Jarod Garza recoiled to fan Aggie centerfielder Kyle Colligan, ending the A&M rally. Garza picked up the win for his work in the inning.
In the seventh, Texas State added to its lead, as Bednarek ripped a line drive at the Aggie left fielder, who misplayed the ball allowing the Bobcat senior to reach second.
Cassidy Dresch capitalized on the Aggie miscue, ending an 0-for-11 streak with an RBI single to center to put the Bobcats up 4-0.
Dresch later stole third and crossed the plate when Jones singled through the left side for Texas State's fifth two-out run of the game.
Texas A&M scored its only run in the ninth on a two-out single by Jose Salazar.
Texas State continues non-conference action Friday at 6:30 p.m., in the first of two weekend games against Dallas Baptist at Bobcat Field.
