SAN ANTONIO - Sarah Lancour and Katie Ann Trahan both went the distance in Saturday's doubleheader at Roadrunner Field in San Antonio, earning Texas State two hard fought wins over its conference-rival.

Texas State overcame a 5-0 deficit in the first game of the afternoon and held on to win the nightcap 3-1 in eight innings, after giving up a run in the bottom of the seventh to send it to an extra inning of play.

With the doubleheader victory, Texas State (23-12, 10-1 SLC) increased its conference winning streak to ten games, while ending Texas-San Antonio's 16-game home winning streak.

UTSA (16-10, 10-4) jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first game of the afternoon. After Jessica Els' seventh home run of the season gave the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, they would tack on four more in the third to extend the lead.

The Bobcats would claw back in the top of the fourth. With two outs and Alex Newton safe at first, freshman Ryan Kos hit her second home run of the year to cut the lead to 5-2.

The UTSA lead was 6-2 heading into the fifth, until Kristin Gunter homered to score Amy Hromadka and trim the lead to two. The Bobcats would add another run in the inning, when Haley Koop scored from second on an error by the Roadrunner rightfielder.

Gunter would strike again in the top of the sixth, when she sent her eighth home run of the year over the fence to score Hromadka, capping off the come-from-behind win for the `Cats, 7-6.

Trahan struck out nine and retired the final 11 batters she faced to pick up her 14th win of the season.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Texas State took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh thanks to Ashton Peters' sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.

UTSA's bottom half of the inning started off with Aimee Murray reaching on an error from the Bobcat rightfielder and then advancing to second.

After Murray advanced to third on a groundout, Brittany Cantu's RBI single to center field knotted the score at 1-1 and sent the game to extra innings.

In the Texas State top of the eighth and with one away in the inning, Newton smacked her second home run of the year to give the Bobcats the 2-1 advantage. The `Cats would add another run in the inning off a well executed double steal from Tamara Keller and Koop.

The Bobcats wouldn't allow UTSA to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning and held on for the 3-1 win.

Lancour went the distance for the Bobcats, scattering five hits while striking out four en route to her ninth victory of the season.

Texas State holds a two game lead for first place in the SLC standings after Saturday's doubleheader victory and looks to sweep the Roadrunners in Sunday's series finale at noon.

Texas State will return home April 5 to host non-conference opponent Houston in a doubleheader, its last non-conference home opponent of the season. The games were originally scheduled for 5 and 7 p.m., but were moved forward to 3 and 5 p.m. to compensate for travel time.
