Texas State came back from a doubles-point loss to beat Sam Houston State 4-3 in Southland Conference play Sunday.
With the win, the Bobcats improved to 4-13 and 2-4 in Southland Conference play while Sam Houston State is now 7-8 and 4-4.
The Bobcats trailed 1-0 after Sam Houston State had swept all three doubles matches before winning five of six first sets in singles. Texas State's No. 3 through No. 6 singles players all went on to score straight-set wins with freshman Lainy Chafitz's 6-4, 6-4 win over Brooke Mills at No. 3 securing the match win for Texas State.
Texas State's Sumarie Muller defeated Peta Taylor 6-3, 6-2 to tie the match score at 1-1 and Jana Cucciniello's 6-4, 6-1 win over Christina Flores gave the `Cats their first lead. Leja Sirola defeated Emma McDougall 6-2, 6-4 in the Bobcats' other singles victory.
Christina Amo, who won at No. 2 singles Saturday against Texas-Arlington, moved to the No. 1 singles slot for the first time this season on Sunday. She lost to Sam Houston's Irina Sotnikova 1-6, 7-5, 6-0.
Texas State is back in action this week, traveling to Stephen F. Austin and Lamar for matches Saturday and Sunday.
