HAMMOND, La. -
Texas State used a two-run first and a three-run fourth to slide past Southeastern Louisiana 5-4, in the series finale at North Oak Park in Hammond, and pick up its second conference win of the season.
Texas State (15-11, 2-1 SLC) put up two runs in the top of the first, after an Amy Krueger double and a Katie Ann Trahan single, Kristin Gunter picked up a pair of RBIs with a double to right center field.
SLU would not back down, rallying to tie the score in identical fashion in the bottom of the inning. The Lions leader on offense, Rebecca De la Garza, picked up the two RBIs to knot the score at 2-2 after an inning of play.
The `Cats would strike again in the fourth, picking up three runs off three hits. The inning got going with an Amy Hromadka single up the middle that scored Karen Taylor, followed by a Ryan Kos double that scored Hromadka and a Krueger single that scored Kos to take a 5-2 lead.
SLU (5-14, 1-5) picked up a single run in the fifth and sixth to cut the lead to one, but that's as close as they would get as Trahan and the Bobcats retired the final four batters to conserve the series victory.
Texas State will resume conference play March 15 when they play host to Sam Houston State. The doubleheader on Wednesday is slated to start at 4 p.m. at Bobcat Field.
