Chris Demerson won 110 meter hurdles and the long jump and placed second in the triple jump to highlight Texas State's performance at the team's lone home meet, the Bobcat Open held Friday in Bobcat Stadium.
Demerson won the hurdles with a time of 14.54 and had a jump of 7.19 meters (23-07.25) to win the long jump. He also had a mark of 14.75 meters (48-04.75) in the triple jump.
Sarah Stultz' sweep of the discus and hammer throw along with wins by Camilla Davis in the 100 meters and Britni Lawrence in the pole vault highlighted the women's performance. The Bobcats also swept the top four finishes in the 200 meters while Jacque Iwuchukwu won the triple jump and finished second in the long jump.
Stultz won the discus with a throw of 47.68 meters (156-05) while winning the hammer with a throw of 48.38 meters (158-09). Ashlea Byrom was third in the hammer with a throw of 41.92 meters.
Davis clocked a time of 12.02 to win the 100 meters by four 100ths of a second over second-place Tiffany Towsend. Lawrence won the pole vault with a mark of 3.80 meters (12-05.50). Ashton Baldwin was third in the pole vault with a mark of 3.65 meters.
Iwuchukwu won the triple jump with a mark of 12.31 meters (40-04-.75) and finished behind former Bobcat LaJuana Lovett in the long jump with a mark of 5.69 meters (18-08.). Lovett won the long jump with a mark of 5.75 meters. Texas State's Sara Olaywiola was third in the triple jump with a mark of 11.30 meters.
Liudmila Litvinova won the 200 meters with a time of 24.41. She beat teammated Katya Kostetskaya (24.54), Alicia Anthony (24.68) and Nicole Lawson (24.68) to the finish line. Lindsey Smith placed second in both the 100 meter hurdles (14.70) and the 400 meter hurdles (1:05.99).
The Bobcat women also swept the relays, winning the 4x100 in a time of 46.48 with the Bobcat B team placing second. The 4x400 team had a winning time of 3:41.52.
In addition to Demerson's performance on the men's side, the Bobcats had individual champions in the 400 meter hurdles and the shot put.
Henry Bynum won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 54.77 while teammate Chad Menefee was second, posting a time of 55.31. Kemuel Morales won the shot put with a throw of 17.15 meters (56-03.25). David Hernandez placed third in the shot put with a mark of 15.87 meters and was also third in the shot put with a throw of 47.92 meters.
Dima Kabakov placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 4.90 meters (16-00.75).
Texas State is back in action next weekend at Whataburger/UTSA Invitational in San Antonio.
