HAMMOND, La. -
Texas State, on an emotional high after defeating No. 2 Texas, dropped game one of its conference-opener with Southeastern Louisiana, but rebounded to tie the series with a game two victory on Saturday afternoon in Hammond, La.
Southeastern Louisiana (5-12, 1-3 SLC) ended its nine-game losing streak with a much needed 2-1 defeat of Texas State in the first game of a doubleheader in Hammond.
The Lions struck first, in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs and two on, SLU got its only hit of the game when freshman Heather Sherrill sent a double to center field that scored Rebecca De la Garza and Brooke Lockhart to take the 2-0 lead.
Texas State (14-11, 1-1) scattered six hits in the game but were held scoreless until the top of the seventh, when after a leadoff triple from Ryan Kos, Karen Taylor singled to center field to score Kos and cut the lead to one.
The Lions would kill the rest of the Bobcat rally, to take game one of the weekend series.
Katie Ann Trahan (8-5) picked up the loss for the Bobcats, after surrendering the only hit of the game for the Lions in the fourth inning, a two-out two-RBI double to Sherrill.
In the nightcap, despite leaving nine runners stranded on base, the Bobcats used a three-run fifth, a two-run seventh and 10 hits to take game two, 6-2.
Texas State received multi-hit performances from four different players and also a pinch-hit two-RBI double from Ali McCormack en route to its first conference win of the season.
Sarah Lancour (6-6) evened her season record after only allowing five hits, two runs and striking out four.
Texas State looks to take the series on Sunday, with game three of the series scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. at North Oak Park in Hammond.
