THIBODAUX, La. - Scott Moore surrendered only four hits and one run in his first career complete game, and David Wood went 3-for-4 with a run scored as Texas State beat Nicholls State 3-1 Friday in Thibodaux, La.

Texas State (7-11, 3-1 SLC) moved its season-long winning streak to four games with the win, while Nicholls (4-12, 0-1) dropped its SLC opener to the `Cats for the second straight season.

The Bobcats never trailed in the game, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Cody Merrell single into center field, scoring Heath Keel from second base. Keel had reached on a Colonel fielding error and arrived at second on a Luke Cannon ground out.

Nicholls would tie the game in the third when Thomas Bourne legged out an infield RBI single to plate Ted Wilke, but Texas State regained the lead in the very next inning on Casey Guest's RBI ground-out to short.

Wood scored the fourth-inning run that put Texas State up 2-1 after pounding a triple off of the right-field wall to lead off the inning.

The Bobcats added to the lead in the fifth, as Thomas Field was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and the Bobcat shortstop stole second with one out.

Aaron Garza then ripped a one-out single into left to score Field, but the junior designated hitter was gunned down at second base trying to stretch the hit into a double.

Moore took control from that point forward, allowing only four Nicholls base runners over the final five innings to get his third win of the season. Moore finished the game with a career-high ten strike outs to improve to 3-2.

Colonel starter Justin Breaux also tossed a complete game but suffered the loss, dropping his record to 0-3 on the season. Breaux finished the game with seven strike outs but did earn two of the `Cats' three runs in the game.

Merrell joined Wood as the only Bobcats to post multiple hits, as Merrell finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Garza and Guest also finished the game with RBIs for Texas State.

The Bobcats and Colonels will continue the series Saturday in Thibodaux, with first pitch slated for 3 p.m. at Didier Field.
