WACO, Texas -
The 18th-ranked Baylor Bears proved to be too much for Texas State on Wednesday night, defeating the Bobcats 9-1 and 4-3 in a doubleheader in Waco.
In the first game of the night, the 'Cats were shut down on offense thanks in part to Baylor's Lisa Ferguson. Ferguson improved her season record to 6-1, allowing only two hits and striking out 10.
Baylor (10-5) jumped out to the early lead, plating six runs in the bottom half of the third to put the game out of reach.
The Bears would add another run in the fourth and one in the sixth, to run-rule the Bobcats, 9-1.
Senior outfielder Amy Hromadka accounted for both Texas State hits and the lone run of the game.
In the nightcap, Texas State couldn't survive a late-inning rally from the Bears, as they swept the series with a 4-3 come-from-behind win.
Texas State (10-10) showed some fight after getting outplayed in the opening game of the evening.
The Bobcats took a 3-0 lead into the bottom half of the fourth inning, until Baylor got its first run of the game when Brette Reagan singled up the middle to score Harmony Schwethelm.
The Bears would tie the game in the bottom of the fifth off Schwethelm's two-out two-RBI single to left field. An inning later, they put the game away on a Chelsi Lake home run to right field.
Tessa Lynam entered the game in the fourth inning and shut the Bobcats down. Lynam retired eight of the final nine batters to pick up her second win of the season.
Texas State looks to break its five-game losing skid, when they play their home-opener against the College of Charleston on March 7.
