Texas State Falls 69-66 to Colonels

SAN MARCOS - Antwoine Blanchard's last-second three-pointer hit back rim as the Texas State men's basketball squad fell to the Nicholls State Colonels, 69-66, at Strahan Coliseum on Saturday.

Texas State (2-17, 0-8 Southland) controlled the game through much of the night, as they took a 6-5 lead early into the contest and did not trail again until 8:01 in the second half. Nicholls State (8-13, 4-6) never gave up, though, managing to overcome a deficit that stretched to 15 at one point. The Colonels finally took a 58-57 lead on a Ryan Bathie three-pointer, a lead they would never relinquish.

Nonetheless there were several fine performance for the `Cats; Charles Dotson played especially strong, leading all scorers on the night with 22 points on an efficient 9-of-13 from the field. Trevor Cook also filled up the stat sheet, just missing a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Jushay Rockett also scored 10 for the `Cats.

It just was not enough, however, as the Nicholls State bench wore away at the `Cats, finishing with a 22-10 advantage. Texas State was also outscored 39-30 in the second half.

The `Cats will look to bounce back Wednesday, February 8, at Lamar; tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. They return home Saturday, February 11, with a 7 p.m. showdown against McNeese State.
