Nebraska posted six eighth-inning runs and the Huskers knocked two balls out of the park in a 10-3 win over Texas State at Rice's Reckling Park in Houston.
Nebraska (4-1) had 13 hits in the game, while Texas State (3-7) got 6.1 innings out of starting pitcher Dan Donaldson in the loss.
The Huskers struck first when Nick Jaros hit his first-career home run over the right-field wall. Bryce Nimmo set up the two-run shot with a lead-off hit-by-pitch, putting Nebraska up 2-0.
Nebraska added another run in the third, as Nimmo scored his second run of the day on Ryan Wehrle's RBI single into left.
Texas State answered in the top of the fourth, tying the game at 3-3 on RBIs by Cody Merrell, Heath Keel and Elliott Babcock.
Thomas Field opened the inning with a double down the left-field line, and after Kyle Jones and Aaron Garza drew walks to load the bases, Merrell lifted a ball into center field for an RBI sacrifice fly for the first Bobcat run of the game..
Jones would score when Keel slammed a single through the middle, and the `Cats tied the game at 3-3 when Babcock singled home Garza.
Nebraska regained the lead in the seventh when Nimmo drove home Jeff Christy, and the Huskers blew the game open in the eighth by crossing the plate six times.
Luke Gorsett hit the second Husker home run of the day after Wehrle doubled to open the game, and after an RBI Jake Opitz single brought home Andy Gerch to make the score 7-3, the Huskers ripped three bases-loaded singles to take a game-ending 10-3 lead.
Donaldson fielded the loss to drop to 0-2 for the `Cats after striking out five and walking two in the game, and the junior transfer surrendered five hits and four runs in 6.1 innings on the mound.
Nebraska starter Tony Watson picked up the win for the Huskers, improving to 2-0 on three runs and four hits in seven innings pitched. Watson recorded eight strike outs in the game.
Eight of Nebraska's starting nine recorded a hit in the game, including four that posted multiple hits. Wehrle paced the Huskers at the plate by going 3-for-5 with two RBIs, while Jaros had three RBIs in the game.
Action resumes in the Rice Invitational Saturday, when the Bobcats take on St. John's at 4:30 p.m. at Reckling Park.
