LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Texas State completed a two-game sweep in its doubleheader on Sunday, defeating George Mason 5-3 and Morehead State 4-0, to finish with a record of 4-1 in the Troy Cox Classic.

The Bobcats (8-5) have won four of their last five games, outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 28-9.

In the first game of the day against George Mason (0-5), the Bobcats fell behind early for the third consecutive game.

George Mason, who was looking for its first win of the season, opened the top of the first with back-to-back singles and a three-run home run by catcher Emily Miller, making the score 3-0.

Just as they have done the previous three games, the Bobcats fired right back, scoring three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie the score at 3-3.

Amy Hromadka reached base on an error and then stole second. Following a Jill Kloesel walk and an Ashton Peters single, Karen Taylor hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Hromadka and closed the gap to 3-1.

Two batters later the game was knotted at 3-3, after consecutive RBI singles by Kristen Gunter and Alex Newton scored Peters and Kloesel.

The Bobcats broke the tie in the bottom of the second, behind a Peters single to center field that scored Kloesel, making the score 4-3.

Sarah Lancour (4-3) got in a groove after the first inning, only allowing two hits in the final six innings for her third consecutive win.

The Bobcats were victorious 5-3, despite another shaky defensive performance where they committed five errors.

In the second game of the doubleheader against Morehead State (1-4), it was a defensive battle until the final inning.

Both teams were held scoreless until the Bobcats caught fire in the top of the seventh, picking up four runs on five hits.

With one away in the inning, Kristen Gunter and Chelsea Giroux sparked the Bobcat seventh with back-to-back solo home runs that gave the `Cats a 2-0 lead.

The Bobcats would add two more runs in the inning in route to a 4-0 victory.

Senior pitcher Katie Ann Trahan (4-2) improved her ERA to 0.78 with a three-hit shutout, her third of the season.

Texas State will continue its road trip Feb. 24-26 when they take on Rhode Island, Houston, BYU, Wichita State and Iowa State in the Crowne Plaza Classic in Houston.
