Texas State Tops Miami University, 8-3

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Texas State scored eight unanswered runs and overcame an early 3-0 deficit to win their second consecutive game in the Troy Cox Classic at the Presley Askew Softball Complex in Las Cruces, N.M.

Texas State (6-4) fell behind early after a Bianca Paz two-out, two-RBI double to right centerfield scored Ashley Gartland and Halle Popson, giving Miami University (4-3) the 2-0 lead.

The RedHawks increased their lead to 3-0 in the top of the third on an RBI single by Paz. With two outs, Paz ripped a line drive to leftfield that scored Gartland, who had reached on a fielding error to open the inning.

Texas State responded with a run in the bottom of the third as an Amy Hromadka leadoff triple, a Jill Kloesel infield single and a double steal made the score 3-1.

The Bobcats narrowed the lead to 3-2 in the fourth on an opposite field home run from freshman Karen Taylor, the first of her college career.

With Miami holding a one-run lead heading into the bottom of the fifth, Texas State sent 11 batters to the plate in the frame and plated five runs, handing Miami its first loss of the weekend.

The RedHawks only had one batter reach base over the final four innings as Sarah Lancour (3-3) retired 13 of the final 15 batters she faced.

Texas State will be back in action tonight as they face tournament-host New Mexico State at 5:30 p.m. The Bobcats then close out the tournament tomorrow in a doubleheader as they face George Mason at 10 a.m. and Morehead State at 12:30 p.m.
