Texas State only needed five innings to cruise to an 11-2 victory in its opening-round game against Utah Valley State at the Troy Cox Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M.
Texas State (5-4) fell behind early after Sarah Lancour gave up a two-out homerun to second baseman Rachel Hartgrove in the bottom of the first, giving the Wolverines (3-1) a 1-0 lead.
The Bobcats came right back in the top of the second, rallying to score three runs on five hits.
Karen Taylor started the inning off with an infield single, followed by a double from Ashton Peters that put runners on second and third with no outs.
Ryan Kos kept the rally going with an infield single that scored Karen Taylor and tied the game at one for the Bobcats.
The `Cats picked up two more runs in the inning, a sacrifice fly from Jetta Weinheimer scored Peters and a Tamara Keller single brought Kos home securing a 3-1 lead.
The Wolverines cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the second when Emily Zupan singled to right field, scoring Kaylie Neal.
That's as close as the Wolverines would get, as the Bobcats exploded for eight runs off eight hits in the third to send Utah Valley State to its first loss of the season.
For the second time this season, the Bobcats played every player on their roster in route to an 11-2 opening-round win.
Lancour (2-3) picked up the win for the Bobcats, receiving excellent run support from her team as they put up 11 runs on 13 hits.
The Bobcats will be back in action tomorrow as they take on Miami University at 10 a.m. in the second-round of the Troy Cox Invitational.
