The Bobcats were eliminated in the semifinals of the Hawaii Paradise Classic on Sunday, falling to Loyola Marymount a second time, by one run.
The Bobcats (3-3) were out for revenge, after losing to LMU (4-2) in the second game of the tournament, 1-0.
In the previous match-up neither team had much of an advantage, with only seven hits combined between the two teams and one run. The second time around was different as the teams combined for seven runs off 19 hits.
The Bobcats had several scoring opportunities early where they failed to capitalize.
Amy Hromadka led off the top of the first with a single and then advanced to third with a stolen base and passed ball.
The Bobcats were threatening to take an early lead, but two strikeouts and a ground ball ended the inning.
In the top half of the third, Ryan Kos led off the inning with a walk and a Jetta Weinheimer sacrifice bunt moved her to second. After a Hromadka double to left center, the Bobcats had runners on second and third with one out.
Two batters later, the bases were loaded for Katie Ann Trahan but she went down on strikes to end the second threat of the day.
The Bobcats trailed 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth, until Kristen Gunter drew a bases loaded walk from Krystal Kehr to cut the lead to 2-1.
The game was knotted at three in the eighth inning until the Lions got a double from Darcy Pagnini that scored Brittany Bassett, sealing the victory for LMU.
Texas State will be back on the road Feb. 15 as they face North Texas in a double-header.
The Bobcats will then travel to Las Cruces, N.M., Feb. 17-19 for the Troy Cox Invitational to take on Utah Valley State, Miami University, New Mexico State, George Mason and Morehead State.
