SAN MARCOS - The Texas State women's tennis team fell just short at home Saturday as they were nipped by North Texas 4-3 at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.

The Bobcats were strong early, picking up a quick point in doubles play.

The team of Leja Sirola and Christina Amo won their match 8-6 while the team of Sumarie Muller and Jana Cucciniello cruised to an 8-1 victory.

In singles action, Margaret Potyrala saw her first action of the season as she defeated Ashley Davis of UNT in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, giving the Bobcats a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Mean Green fought back, taking three straight matches to take a 3-2 lead.

Amo was caught in a battle with Sammie Moreton, taking the match all the way to a tie breaker before falling 7-4 in the third set to seal the win for UNT.

In the final match of the day, Lainy Chafitz showed great patience after falling in the first set, 6-1. Chafitz kept her composure and forced the match into a third-set tie-breaker, winning 7-2.

The Bobcats will be on the road Feb. 17-19 when they travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., to face Northern Colorado, Army and Air Force.
