Texas State sophomore forward Dylan Moseley made the most of his first start of the season, scoring a career-high 28 points as the Bobcats defeated Texas-Pan American 84-74 Saturday in Strahan Coliseum.
With the win, Texas State improved to 3-5 and avenged a 77-64 loss to the Broncs last month in Edinbung. UTPA is now 5-5.
Texas-Pan American led 25-18 before the Bobcats put together a 13-2 run to go up 31-27 with 4:22 to play in the first half. During the rally, Texas State went 8-for-8 from the free throw line and Moseley connected on one of his four, three-point baskets on the night.
Texas State would not trail again after the late, first-half run and led 40-35 at the break as Brandon Bush connected on a floating jumper with five seconds to play in the period.
Moseley scored the Bobcats' first nine points of the second half as Texas State stretched its lead to 49-38 with 16:35 to play. Moseley was 8-for-19 from the field and knocked down 8-of-9 free throws. The Frisco native also had seven rebounds, two steals and blocked a shot.
Charles Dotson and Bush each added 15 points for the Bobcats.
Paul Stoll scored 15 points to pace the Broncs. Colin Lien finished with a double-double, scoring 11 points and pulling down 10 boards while Julius Allgood also had 10 boards for UTPA before fouling out.
The two teams combined for 59 personal fouls. In addition to Allgood picking up his fifth personal in the final minute, Dexter Shankle and Stoll also fouled out of the game.
Texas State continues its current home stand Wednesday when the Bobcats play host to Texas-Permian Basin. UTPA is at home against Stephen F. Austin Dec. 18.
