Centenary Squeaks By Bobcats in OT, 82-81

SAN MARCOS - Chase Adams' jumper in the paint with 33 seconds proved to be the game-winning basket as Centenary upended Texas State 82-81 in overtime Saturday in Strahan Coliseum.

The Bobcats scored the final 10 points in regulation to send the contest to overtime tied at 75-75.

Texas State's run was catapulted by an intentional foul called on Bryan Baumann with 1:14 to play. The foul was Baumann's fifth and sent Antwoine Blanchard to the free throw line as well as kept possession with the Bobcats. Blanchard would make two free throws to cut Centenary's lead to 75-67 and on the ensuing possession, drilled a three-pointer as the foul ultimately led to the `Cats cutting the lead in half.

At the other end of the floor, Larry Logan missed a pair of free throws and on the Bobcats' next time down the floor Dylan Moseley was fouled by Logan while sinking a three-pointer with 40 seconds to play.

Centenary's Nick Stallings' layup attempt rolled off the iron and was rebounded by Texas State's Brandon Bush. At the other end of the floor Bush was fouled with two seconds to play. The sophomore connected on both free throws to tie the game at 75-75 and send the contest to overtime.

Logan made two free throws on Centenary's first offensive possession of the extra period and Bush went 1-for-2 at the line at the other end of the floor. Moseley would later go 1-for-2 from the line to tie the score at 77-77 with 3:27 to play in overtime.

Texas State would take the lead on a pair of free throws by Bush at the 2:36 mark but Centenary would answer with a three-pointer by Logan that put the Gents up 80-79 with 2:03 to play. The Bobcats would regain the lead on an offensive rebound and putback layup by Antwon Williams with 48 seconds to play before Adams hit the game winner.

Texas State would get one last opportunity but a loose ball was controlled by Centenary with .2 seconds to play.

With the win, Centenary improved to 6-8 while the Bobcats dropped to 6-8 heading to Southland Conference play. Texas State continues its current four-game home stand when it plays host to Northwestern State Thursday at 7 p.m. in Strahan Coliseum. Centenary continues a three-game, Texas road swing next Tuesday at Baylor.

Off the bench, Logan led all scorers with 21 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Gents. Centenary had three players foul out and the team had 31 personals and 26 turnovers which led to 23 Texas State points. The Gents also shot 55 percent from the field while holding the Bobcats to 36-percent shooting.

Blanchard scored 16 points, had four steals and three assists to pace the Bobcats.
