Baylor guards Curtis Jerrell and Henry Dugat scored 17 and 15 points, respectively, to help lead the Bears to an 89-64 win over Texas State Saturday in the Ferrell Center.
With the win, Baylor won its fourth straight game and improved its record to 6-1. Texas State fell to 2-5. The Bobcats begin a two-game home stand on Dec. 9 when they play host to Texas-Pan American.
Baylor got off to a quick start, scoring the game's first 11 points and building an 18-2 lead. During the early run, the Bears took advantage of six Texas State turnovers which led to eight Baylor points.
Texas State coach Doug Davalos would go to his bench before the `Cats would score their first bucket. Brian Hill's jumper from the left wing at the 15:29 mark of the first half would account for Texas State's first points.
Charles Dotson would score eight points in the opening half, including six straight for the Bobcats, en route to a 10-point night. The senior had scored in double figures in Texas State's first four games this season and eight straight dating back to last year before finishing with eight points earlier in the week against Alcorn State.
Texas State trailed 45-28 at the half but opened the second period with an 8-2 run. Dylan Moseley and Antwoine Blanchard each drilled three-pointers while Hill scored a fastbreak layup after starting the play on the other end of the court with a steal and pass to Brandon Thomas.
Hill had scored just one point through the Bobcats' first six games but finished with seven points and two rebounds in 10 minutes of play.
Hill's fastbreak basket led to a Baylor timeout with the Bears leading 47-36 with 16:04 to play. Moseley's three-pointer on the Bobcats' next offensive possession cut the Bears' lead to single digits, 48-39.
With just under seven minutes to play and Baylor leading 63-49, Dotson was called for his fourth personal when he went after an offensive rebound and was also whistled for a technical after the play to account for his fifth foul. Aaron Bruce hit two free throws on the technical and Kevin Rogers' two free throws for the foul gave Baylor a 67-49 lead with 6:51 to play.
Rogers' two free throws would start a stretch in which the sophomore would score 14 of the Bears' next 17 points as Baylor extended its lead to 20+ points. He finished the night with a team-high 18 points, including 14 in the second half.
Texas State was led by Moseley, who scored 12 points. He was 4-for-8 from three-point range on the night.
