Zwinggi Named SLC Player of the Week

FRISCO - Texas State sophomore running back Stan Zwinggi has been voted the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week after registering his third, 100-yard rushing game of the season in the Bobcats' 28-21 win over Sam Houston State on Saturday.

Zwinggi carried the ball 22 times for 120 yards, including a 49-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to give the Bobcats a 21-14 lead. Zwinggi would help Texas State extend its lead in the quarter when the tipped a high screen pass, caught the ball and raced 80 yards for the Bobcats' final score. He had 269 all-purpose yards in the game - 120 rushing, 80 receiving and 69 kickoff return yards.

The Fredericksburg native closed out the year as Texas State's leading rusher with 735 yards on 131 carries. He averaged 5.6 yards per carry. He also caught 12 passes for 159 yards and was the team's leading kickoff returner with 14 returns for 311 yards (22.2 per return).

Also named players of the week on Monday were McNeese State linebacker Allen Nelson and place kicker Blake Bercegeay.

Texas State punter Chris MacDonald was also a nominee for special teams player of the week after averaging 55.8 yards on five punts. With Texas State facing fourth down from the Bobcat three and again from the one on two fourth-quarter series, MacDonald booted punts of 58 and 56 yards. He also had a 64-yarder in the game.
