CORPUS CHRISTI - Texas State volleyball closed the regular season with a win Saturday, knocking off Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 3-1 Saturday to close the season with a 10-6 mark in Southland Conference play.

The Bobcats (14-16) have qualified for the Southland Conference volleyball tournament next week in San Antonio, as Kelly Fletcher led the team in kills for the third-straight match with 22 kills, also marking her third straight outing with 20 or more. Jessica Weynand also finished in double figures, knocking down 11 kills, while Kacey Wimpy led the team defensively with 22 digs.

Texas State rolled in game one, winning 30-19 behind an 11-2 run that blew the game open with the Bobcats up 19-17. In game two, the Islanders fought back for a 30-22 win, breaking a 15-15 tie with a game-ending 15-7 run that tied the match at 1-1.

The `Cats regained control in game three, edging the Islanders 30-28 after jumping out to an 18-9 lead through the middle of the frame. A&M-Corpus Christi came back to tie the game at 28-all by outscoring Texas State 19-10 over the next 29 serves, but the Bobcats completed the game-three win with the next two points, including a Weynand kill and an Islander error that iced the game and the 2-1 match lead.

Texas State would finish the match in game four, taking extra points to beat the Islanders 31-29 for the 3-1 win. The Bobcats again grabbed a big lead mid-way through, taking a 17-10 advantage on a Fletcher kill from Erin Hickman.

The Islanders came back to tie the score at 29-all, but Lawrencia Brown posted the final two points of the match on a kill and an ace to close the regular season with the four-game victory. Hickman led the Bobcats from the setting position with 52 assists, while Karry Griffin had four blocks in her final regular-season match as a Bobcat.

Texas State continues the season Friday in the opening round of the SLC Tournament, with first serve to be determined when brackets are released for the post-season championship Sunday.
