SAN MARCOS - Brandon Bush scored a career-high 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting and 4-of-7 from outside the 3-point arc, as Texas State earned first-year head coach Doug Davalos his first-career Division I coaching victory in a 106-93 win over Dallas Baptist Friday at Strahan Coliseum.

Texas State (1-0) finished with four players in double-figures including 18 from Charles Dotson in a game that saw 81 combined fouls, three short of the 53-year-old record of 84 set by Arizona and Northern Arizona on Jan. 26, 1953.

The game also marked the first regular-season contest for Dallas Baptist (0-1), a first-year men's basketball program that was led by Nich Michaels' 29 points, including 19-of-24 from the foul line.

The Bobcats raced to a 57-34 halftime lead with a 9-3 run to end the period, and the `Cats finished the game 33-of-60 from the floor, as Dallas Baptist won the second half 59-49 behind 24 second-half free throws and 17-of-30 shooting.

Texas State returns to the floor Tuesday at Centenary in a 7 p.m. tip with the Gents, and the `Cats return home Nov. 22 to take on Arkansas-Little Rock at 7 p.m. at Strahan Coliseum.
