SAN MARCOS - Lawrencia Brown had 22 kills and Karry Griffin had her second-straight hitting outing above .400, as Texas State got past Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in four games (30-25, 30-26, 16-30, 30-25) Saturday at Strahan Coliseum.

Texas State (7-12, 3-2 SLC) moved past the .500 mark in conference play for the first time in 2006, while the Islanders dropped their 14th-straight overall and their sixth in conference play to fall to 1-15 on the year. Griffin produced her best hitting outing of the season, earning 13 kills on .478 from the floor.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was led by Christie Feliz, who had 24 kills to lead three Islanders in double-figures. Defensively, Texas State was led by Griffin and Kacey Wimpy, who each produced 12 digs, while Amy Weigle had six blocks on the afternoon.

The Bobcats scored on four of the first five serves to take a 4-1 lead, and Weigle put the `Cats up 7-2 with an ace. The Islanders fired back with a 5-1 spurt, getting to within one before Griffin slammed a ball through to stop the run and put Texas State on top 9-7.

Texas State then went on a 6-0 run, capped by a Brown kill that made the score 19-12, and two plays later, Griffin forced a ball through from the right side to put Texas State on top 22-14. From there, TAMU-CC went on a 5-1 run to get within four, but Texas State closed the door when Griffin added a kill and a block in the final two serves, earning the game and a 1-0 lead in the match.

In game two, Texas State went on a 5-2 run to erase an Islander lead and tie the game at 7-7, and a mid-game 9-2 run put the `Cats in front 23-16 after several ties and lead changes. The Islanders fought back to clip the Texas State lead to 26-23, but the Bobcats earned game point on a Brown kill that put Texas State up 2-0 into the intermission.

The Islanders narrowed Texas State's match lead to 2-1 with a 30-16 game-three win, using a 7-0 run to go up 19-7 and finishing the game on a Texas State error that narrowed the Bobcats' match lead to one.

The Bobcats would go on to edge the Islanders in game four, going up 16-10 on a Griffin spike after earning four of the first five points in the deciding game.

A&M-Corpus Christi would later tie the game at 21-21, but Texas State put the match out of reach with a 4-0 run to go on top 25-21. The Bobcats outscored the Islanders 5-4 over the final nine serves, winning the game 30-25 and the match 3-1.

Texas State returns to action Friday, hosting Lamar at 7 p.m. before a 4 p.m. Saturday contest against McNeese State that will wrap up the Bobcats four-game homestand.
