Senior Kim Phillips scored 12 seconds into the game off a Natalie Holder assist, and the Texas State women's soccer team never looked back on its way to an 8-0 win over Prairie View A&M Tuesday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
Five different `Cats registered goals, and freshmen Nikki Kinard and Lindsay Tippit along with Phillips scored twice. Both Kinard and Tippit also added an assist apiece on the night.
The Bobcats led 5-0 at half time and dominated offensively throughout the game. The eight total goals nearly doubled the season output for the `Cats, who had ten goals in 11 games prior to Tuesday. For the game Texas State also out-shot Prairie View A&M 31-2.
After Phillips' initial goal, the senior scored again in the 17th minute to make it 2-0. The Bobcats then got three goals in seven minutes when Tippit scored in the 32nd, Kinard scored in the 37th and fellow freshman Andrea Seledee knocked one home in the 39th.
Tippit and Kinard added their second goals late in the second half with freshman Andrea Grifo's first career goal sandwiched in between them. Kinard's goals also marked the first two of her career in the maroon and white.
The Bobcats will look to use the victory to build momentum heading back into conference play over the weekend. Texas State will host Central Arkansas in the first-ever meeting between the two schools on Friday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. before kicking off at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9, against Southeastern Louisiana.
