HUNTSVILLE - The Bobcat women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Sam Houston State on Sunday afternoon in what turned out to be a goalkeeping duel in Huntsville.

Sam Houston's Melissa Sauceda recorded 14 saves while Texas State senior goalie Brittany Beltramini made 13 stops of her own, but Bearkat forward Raquel Bueno found pay dirt two minutes into the second half to beat Beltramini for what turned out to be the game-winning goal.

Both offenses applied pressure throughout the match. Sam Houston out shot the Bobcats 23-16, and the two teams combined for 14 corner kicks. Senior Kim Phillips led the Bobcats with five shot attempts, but Sauceda stopped everything the Bobcats gave her en route to earning a shutout.

The Bobcats (1-9-1, 0-1-1) failed to win their seventh road game after tying UTSA 2-2 on Sept. 27 and are now 0-6-1 away from the Bobcat Soccer Complex. Texas State has also now lost seven of their last eight games.

Sam Houston (3-9, 1-2-0) ended a six-match losing streak with the win and also ended a drought of nearly 400 minutes without a goal. The win also marked the program's first ever against Texas State in six tries.

The Bobcats will have only a brief period to rest before beginning a three-game home stretch over the next week. Texas State will host Prairie View A&M in a non-conference game on Oct. 3 before continuing Southland action Oct. 6 and Oct. 8 against Central Arkansas and Southeastern Louisiana.
