SAN MARCOS - Lawrencia Brown had 16 kills and Erin Hickman tallied 51 assists in her first start as a Bobcat in Texas State's 3-0 (30-24, 30-19, 31-29) straight-game win over Southeastern Louisiana (4-8, 0-4 SLC).

Texas State (4-7, 3-1 SLC) opened game one with the first point on a Southeastern attacking error, but the Lions quickly countered, evening the score at 1-1. From that point, Texas State went on a 9-5 run to open a 10-6 lead.

Southeastern got back within three at 12-9, but the `Cats scored the game's next six points and held a 17-9 lead midway through the match's first game. Southeastern again got within striking distance, cutting the Bobcat lead to 23-19, but Texas State out-scored the Lions 7-5 to close the first game with a 30-24 win, securing a 1-0 lead in the match.

Brandy St. Francis opened game two with a kill to put the `Cats on top 1-0, but a Texas State attacking error tied the game at 1-1. After a second game-two tie at 2-2, the Bobcats rallied for two consecutive points for a 4-2 lead and extended the lead to 9-3 by way of a 5-1 run.

Southeastern notched a point that made the score 9-4, but Texas State again jumped on the Lions with a 6-2 run that gave the `Cats a 15-6 game-two lead. The teams traded points and Texas State held on to the lead at 20-12, and despite a fight from the Lions the `Cats closed the game with a 10-7 run that put the game away 30-19. The game-two win gave Texas State a 2-0 lead in the match.

Lawrencia Brown opened game three with a kill that gave Texas State a 1-0 lead, and Brittany Prewit slammed a ball through the Southeastern defense to open the lead to 2-0. Southeastern got its first point, cutting the Bobcat lead to 2-1, and the Lions then tied the game with a kill at 2-2.

The game remained back-and-forth, and with the teams tied at 10-10, Southeastern hammered home a pair of points to take a two-point, 12-10 lead. Texas State immediately answered, taking advantage of a Southeastern error and an Ashley Stark kill to tie the game at 12-12.

Southeastern used a 3-1 mini-run to take a 15-13 lead at game three's midway point, but after tying the score six different times, Texas State regained the lead at 23-22 when a Lion front-line player brushed the net on a Bobcat attack. From that point, Texas State outscored Southeastern 8-7 to shut the door on the game and the match with a 31-29 win.

Brown's 16 kills paced the Bobcats, while Elizabeth Nwoke chipped in 14 in the win. Amy Ramirez guided the Bobcat defense with 16 digs, and Hickman's 51 assists were tops for Texas State in the match.

Karry Griffin's six blocks were a team-high as well for the Bobcats, who improved to 3-1 in Southland play.

The win was Texas State's third in its last four matches, putting the Bobcats in a tie for second place in the SLC standings. Texas State concludes its two-match homestand Saturday, with a 2 p.m. match against Nicholls State.
