NACOGDOCHES - Stephen F. Austin defeated Texas State 2-1 as both teams opened Southland Conference competition Friday evening. This is the first time in Bobcat (3-8-0 overall, 0-1 SLC) soccer history the team lost a conference opener.

Freshman forward Angela Crissy scored the lone Bobcat goal on a one-on-one breakaway in the game's 67th minute. With the goal, the San Antonio native becomes Texas State's point leader (12). Three Bobcats, Kim Phillips, Natalie Holder and Reagan McNutt, made a game-best three shots each.

Goalkeeper Paige Perriraz made ten saves in the losing effort.

Amanda Alders scored the game winner six minutes after Caitlin O'Brien started the all scoring early in the second half for the LadyJacks (7-3-0, 1-0 SLC). The Jacks put up two goals in the first 12 minutes of the second half, a deficit that proved too much for Texas State's offense. Natascia Michaleski made ten saves on the night.

Texas State continues its SLC schedule on Sunday. The Bobcats square off with Sam Houston State at 1 p.m. The Bobcats play at home on Oct. 9 when Louisiana-Monroe comes to town.
