Texas State Drops Second Tournament Match To Albany

SAN MARCOS - Albany used a pair of 30-28 games and a 30-24 mark in the decisive third game to beat Texas State 3-0 in the Bobcats' final match in the CenturyTel/Classic Honda Premier.

Texas State (1-2) jumped out to an early 5-4 advantage, and after the teams traded leads, Albany (4-0) broke a 20-20 tie that proved to be enough to take game one 30-28.

In game two, Texas State again took the first lead by scoring the game's first point, but the Bobcats would not lead again until the 25-24 mark in the game. The game saw three lead changes and 11 ties, and Albany won its second straight 30-28 game in the match.

Texas State came out firing in the third game of the match by grabbing a 7-2 lead, but Albany closed the game on a 28-17 run to beat the Bobcats in three straight games.

Texas State was led in the match by Lawrencia Brown's ten kills and Jesi Grisham's 12 assists, while Karry Griffin and Christina Melvin both reached double-digit digs on the afternoon.

The loss dropped the defending tournament champion Bobcats to 1-2 on the season. Texas State will return to the court Tuesday, when the Bobcats travel to Waco for a bout with the Baylor Bears.
