SAN MARCOS - In its home opener, Texas State fell to the University of Texas-El Paso, 3-1. Four games into the regular season, the Bobcats are still looking for their first win.

After being outscored 3-0 in the first half, Texas State (0-4) held UTEP (4-0) to only five shots in the second half. Goalkeeper Linsey Metcalf started the second half and made three saves for the Bobcats. Junior Amy Benton got Texas State on the board when she scored her first goal of the season in the game's 75th minute.

Despite making eight shots on goal and out-shooting UTEP 13-11, Texas State was unable to convert throughout the rest of the match. In addition, the Bobcats played without forward Danielle Holloway after she was injured early in the first half.

According to team trainer Carla Heffner, "Danielle's injury does not look serious and we hope to have her back in the lineup soon."

UTEP's Melissa Abraham scored her third goal of the season, as Brandi Aston and Leslie Platz each made their first. Goalkeeper Brittany Popoff made five saves for the Miners in the first half and has given up three goals in 322 minutes of work.

For Bobcat coach Kat Conner, the loss "showed a glimpse of what we are looking for in terms of using the field and playing aggressive soccer." She added, "We need to play with the same confidence for entire games as we did for the second half today."

The Bobcats' next opportunity to win their first comes on Sunday. The team travels to Houston to take on Rice University (2-1) at 1 p.m.
