Soccer Wins 2005 LadyJack Soccer Classic

NACOGDOCHES - The Bobcats won their third straight game after defeating Louisiana Tech 2-0 in the final game of the SFA LadyJack Soccer Classic. Texas State (3-6 overall) won the Classic as host school Stephen F. Austin took second.

Junior Natalie Holder was named Co-Tournament MVP. She shares the honor with SFA freshman Amanda Alders. Holder scored an unassisted goal, her second of the season, on Sunday. In Texas State's 9-1 win over The Citadel on Friday evening, Holder got her first goal of the season and assisted on Jerelyn Lemmie's fifth goal.

Four Bobcats were named to the All-Tournament team including Holder, goalkeeper Paige Perriraz, midfielder Delayna Spivey (one assist) and defender Kristy Collison.

Perriraz started for the second straight game. The junior from Robstown made six saves and earned her first shutout of the season after giving up only one goal to The Citadel.

On the weekend, three Bobcat goals came on penalty kicks, including Sunday's game-winner. Rikki Padia scored her first of the season on a penalty kick at the 59:39 mark. Spivey led all athletes with six shots as Texas State made 25 on the day.

Louisiana Tech (5-3 overall) goalkeeper Chrissy Haisler made seven saves in the first half before allowing two goals within 25 seconds of each other in the second. Kathleen McCullough made a team-best two shots for the Bulldogs.

After scoring four goals in six losses, the Bobcats have outscored their opponents 20-1, helping them put together a three-game win streak.

The Bobcats head to Oklahoma to take on the Sooners next weekend. The game, slated for Friday at 7:30 p.m., is the last before Texas State begins Southland Conference competition. Favored to win the SLC, the Bobcats head back to SFA on September 30 to open conference play.
