Soccer Dominates Prairie View A&M, 9-0

Texas State posted a 9-0 victory over the PVAMU Panthers on Sunday afternoon to earn its first regular season victory.

The Bobcats (1-6), who struggled to put the ball in the net throughout the season's first six games, got ten players involved in the afternoon's scoring efforts. Sophomore Jerelyn Lemmie paced the Bobcats, scoring two goals on three shots. With Sunday's performance, the Sugar Land native becomes the Bobcats' leading scorer with three goals.

Seven Bobcats scored their first goals of the season, including starters Amanda Machado (one assist) and Delayna Spivey. Five of those goals came from Texas State's bench. Elyse Ehlinger, Erin Oliver, Natalie Jackson, Karin Henrichsen and Angela Crissy each added goals. Rikki Padia assisted on the team's third and fourth goals of the afternoon.

The Bobcat defense held Prairie View A&M (0-4) to six shots in the contest as the offense forced Panther goalkeeper Amy Miller to make 18 saves. Krystle Dillon led the Panthers with three shots.

All three Texas State goalkeepers saw action. Brittany Beltramini started the game and made two saves in the first half. After defending the Bobcat goal for most of the second half and making two saves, Linsey Metcalf was replaced by Paige Perriraz with 2:30 left to play.

After falling 2-1 on Friday evening to Centenary, the Bobcats were still looking for the season's first win. Head coach Kat Conner said that her team needed to build confidence in scoring and in following through on the good things it started. After being outscored 18-4 in the first six games, the Bobcats not only got the ball in the net, but also earned a team shutout on Sunday.

Set to compete in the Stephen F. Austin tournament next weekend, Texas State will take on The Citadel (2-3) on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and Louisiana Tech (3-1) on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Southland Conference play begins on September 30th when the Bobcats again travel to SFA's campus to meet the Ladyjacks.
