Bobcat Softball Season Ends at Conference Tournament

HAMMOND, La. - The Texas State softball's season came to an end at the Southland Conference Tournament as the Bobcats fell 8-1 to the No. 6 seed McNeese State (30-33) in Hammond, La.

The `Cats close out the season with a 26-27 record.

Kristen Gunter hit an RBI double to right center, scoring Holly Britain to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. The tide turned on Texas State as the Cowgirls lit up the scoreboard in the top of the fourth, which included a three-run home run by freshman Jenny Clay.

Cowgirl Beth Jordan tied the game on a RBI double from Tonya Edlund and McNeese State posted four more runs in the frame.

Clay nailed a long ball that hit the scoreboard to send Tonya Edlund and Jana Jones home. Up 4-0 with one out, Megan Novak reached on a fielding error by third baseman Holly Britain and then advanced to second before Rachael Phillips grounded out to third base. A Courtney Parks triple to right center scored Novak to put the Cowgirls ahead, 5-1, before Nicole Edlund struck out swinging to close the inning.

McNeese State would distance itself further, adding three more runs in the top of the fifth. The Cowgirls took advantage of a pair of Bobcat errors to score pinch runner Ryan Sohoski, T. Edlund and J. Jones.

Jessica Denham earned the win as she gave up only one run on four hits and struck out two while Texas State's Sarah Lancour fanned five batters but gave up eight runs on nine hits.
