SAN MARCOS - McNeese State spoiled Texas State's senior day Sunday at Bobcat Field, turning back the Bobcats 7-5, despite a fight in the ninth inning.

McNeese State (21-30, 10-14 SLC) jumped on top early, as Chris Carnahan singled into right to score Bryan Cartie, and the Cowboys added a second run in the top of the second when Josh Fontenot scored on a Bobby Sawicki wild pitch.

Texas State (31-21, 14-10 SLC) evened the score in the bottom of the third, as Cassidy Dresch and Dominic Ramos scored on an unconventional sacrifice fly for Nolan Mast. Mast got one RBI out of the play, as he lifted a foul pop-up near the first-base dugout, which was caught by Cowboy first baseman Tyler Stutes. The tagging Dresch bolted for home and Stutes' throw got by the McNeese State catcher, enabling Ramos to score from second to tie the game at 2-2.

The Bobcats took the lead in the fourth inning, when Kyle Jones scored on a Cowboy fielding error. Texas State added a fourth run in the sixth inning, as Keel brought home Luke Cannon with a sacrifice fly to center.

McNeese State came charging back in the top of the seventh, beginning with a pair of singles and a wild pitch to start the inning, putting runners at second and third with no outs. Charlie Kingrey used a Bobcat fielding error to reach base, and two runs scored on the play. Two more RBI singles put the Cowboys on top 6-4 through seven innings, and Taylor Faul's eighth-inning RBI sacrifice fly gave the Cowboys a 7-4 lead through eight innings.

Both teams stayed off of the scoreboard until the bottom of the ninth, when the Bobcats got a pair of singles to begin the inning, and Mast ripped a one-out single to load the bases for Kyle Anson. Anson sent a single through the right side, plating Dresch from third, and leaving the bases juiced for Jones. Jones hit a ground ball to the McNeese State shortstop, who flipped the ball to the second baseman for the inning's second out. Anson went hard with a slide into second base, and was called for runner's interference for the third out of the inning.

Sawicki did not figure on the decision Sunday, and came within one strike out of tying the Texas State career record for strike outs with his two fanned batsmen on the day. B.J. Boening took the loss for the Bobcats, giving up two runs in two-thirds of an inning pitched, while McNeese State reliever Danny Davis picked up the win to move his record to 4-4 on the year.

Ramos, Mast, Anson and Dresch each recorded two hits for the Bobcats, with RBIs on the day coming from Mast, Anson and Keel. Anson reached base in all five of his trips to the plate, going two-for-two on the afternoon and recording three bases on balls.

Cartie, the Cowboys' freshman starting pitcher and designated hitter, went three-for-five at the plate with two runs scored for McNeese State.
