Dominic Ramos and Kyle Jones combined for seven hits and seven runs as the Bobcats won their second straight, beating Southeastern Louisiana 11-2 in the series finale at Alumni Field.
Texas State (30-18, 13-8 SLC) notched at least one run in each of the game's five innings, and Bobby Sawicki allowed only two runs in eight innings pitched, as the Bobcats took their third straight Southland Conference series.
Texas State opened scoring in the first inning, when Jones' one-out RBI single scored Ramos from third, giving the `Cats the early 1-0 lead.
Southeastern Louisiana (21-25, 9-12 SLC) got that run back in the bottom of the first when Steve Clevenger singled to bring home Gary Duhe.
Texas State regained the lead in the second, when Dawid Bednarek scored on a double into left center by Ramos, and the `Cats added a third inning run Jose Rodriguez scored on a Southeastern wild pitch, making the score 3-1 heading to the bottom of the third.
In the fourth, Texas State scored three runs, two of which came on a two-RBI double to left by Jones. The `Cats third run of the inning came when Nolan Mast scored on a wild pitch, giving the `Cats a 6-1 lead through four innings.
Texas State's fifth started with a lead-off double by Cassidy Dresch, followed by a two-out RBI triple by Ramos. Ramos scored on the very next play, when Nolan Mast singled into left field, giving Texas State a seven run lead through five innings played.
Southeastern got a run back in the seventh, scoring on Duhe's sacrifice fly, but Texas State put up three runs in the top of the ninth to seal its second-straight SLC win. The Bobcats' ninth inning runs came on a two-RBI Ramos double, and a Kyle Anson RBI single into right.
Ramos led the team in RBIs with four in his three-for-five performance, while Jones went four-for-six with three RBIs in the game. Ramos also scored four of the Bobcat runs, while Dresch and Elliott Babcock each scored a pair of runs in the game.
In eight innings pitched, Sawicki gave up only two runs, one earned, and struck out five batters, putting him three strike outs shy of Texas State's all-time career mark of 233. B.J. Boening came on in the ninth to shut the game down for the Bobcats, striking out two and allowing two hits, but allowing no runs in the inning.
Sawicki got the win for Texas State, moving his record to 6-2 on the year, while Jeremy Mizell took the loss for Southeastern, dropping his record to 1-3 on the year. Mizell pitched three innings in the game, allowing three runs on three Bobcat hits, striking out four and walking three.
The Bobcats will return to the diamond on Tuesday, as they face Dallas Baptist. Tuesday's game will be the second meeting between the Patriots and Bobcats this season, as Dallas Baptist downed Texas State 5-2 in eight innings on March 1 in Dallas. Tuesday's first pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m., at Bobcat Field.
