Trinity picked up the doubles point then earned a split in singles play to post a 4-3 win over Texas State Saturday.
The Tigers, who have advanced to the NCAA Division III playoffs every year since 1993, improved to 14-3 with the win. Texas State fell to 6-12 heading into its final match of the season against Lamar. Sunday's match against the Cardinals is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Texas State Tennis Complex.
Trinity won the first point of Saturday's match, winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Jackie Mendillo and Megan Suarez defeated Leja Sirola and Margaret Potyrala 8-3 for the Tigers' win at No. 2 doubles. Hayley Dittus and Alicia Hunt beat Texas State's Celina Gomez and Laura Gomez 8-3 at No. 3.
The Tigers then got a key a three-set win from Mendillo at No. 1 singles. Mendillo defeated Sirola 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 for one of three singles wins for Trinity. Texas State won at Nos. 3-5 singles with freshman Natalie McLeod posting a 6-1, 1-6, 10-4 victory at No. 5 for the Bobcats.
This weekend marks the final matches for four Texas State seniors. Celina Gomez and Laura Gomez along with Melanie Hall and Tina Klemenc are playing in the final matches of their careers. Hall and Klemenc teamed to win at No. 1 doubles Saturday, defeating Trinity's Christy Austin and Laura Steinmetz 8-2.
