SAN MARCOS - Texas State improved its league record to 14-4 and remains atop the Southland Conference after defeating Texas-Arlington 3-1 Friday at Bobcat Field. With the loss, the Lady Mavericks fall to 12-21 overall and 8-10 in the league.
Katie Ann Trahan picked-up her 17th win, striking out eight while allowing one Maverick run on one hit. Jill Garro picked up the loss for UTA.
The Lady Mavericks broke open a scoreless game in the fourth inning as UTA capitalized on an error. Kristin Moore reached on a Bobcat error before Katie Jones hit a run-scoring single.
Trahan evened the score 1-1 in the Bobcats' half of the frame, driving in Amy Hromadka who beat out an infield single to lead off the inning.
Lauren Griffith singled through the right side to drive in one run. Hromadka later singled to load the bases with just one out. With two outs, Trahan drove in her second run of the game as she drew a bases-loaded walk to give Texas State a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning.
The Bobcats and Mavericks will finish out the series Saturday with a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Bobcat Field.
