Scott Moore pitched all eight innings, giving up just two runs and three hits to Texas-Arlington, but Jake Baxter went nine shut-out innings for the Mavericks, who downed the Bobcats 2-0.
UT-Arlington scored both of its runs in the fifth inning on Nathan Warrick's RBI single and an RBI sacrifice fly for Josh McSpadden.
Texas State was able to get six hits on the night, including a pair of singles by Dominic Ramos and Kyle Anson to lead off the top of the ninth. Each base runner moved up a base on a throwing error by the UTA catcher, and Kyle Jones walked to load the bases with one out.
Baxter struck out Luke Cannon, and got a hard-hit ground ball to second by Elliott Babcock to end the game.
Ramos led the `Cats offensively, going three-for-four on the night. Moore picked up the loss, dropping his record to 4-2, despite pitching eight innings, allowing two runs and three hits. Moore struck out six and walked three in the loss.
The shut-out win was the second for Baxter over the Bobcats this season, improving his record to 7-1. The win moved UTA to 18-16 on the year, and 8-2 in SLC play. The Bobcats dropped to 20-14 overall, 5-5 in the SLC.
The `Cats and Mavericks will be back on the field Saturday, as Chris Jean will go for the Bobcats against Grant Varnell for UTA. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m., at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington.
