Bobcats Exorcize Demons 4-1 in Ten Innings

NATCHITOCHES, La. - With the bases loaded and two outs, Holly Britain delivered a three-run double in the top of the 10th inning Sunday as Texas State completed a series sweep with the 4-1 triumph against Northwestern State in Southland Conference softball.

Texas State (19-19, 13-4) took sole possession of the SLC lead with the weekend sweep. The Bobcats defeated NSU 6-2 and 6-3 in a double-header Saturday at Demon Diamond. Northwestern State entered the weekend leading the conference race.

Northwestern (26-20, 12-6) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a home run by Michelle Castellano.

In the fourth, Ashley Wilson cracked her third home run of the weekend to tie the game at 1-1.

In the bottom of the 10th inning, the Lady Demons were unable to mount a rally against Katie Ann Trahan (16-14, 2.28), who struck out 16 hitters including the final batter of the game.  She allowed just one run on four hits.    In the series, Trahan struck out 36 while picking up two wins and a save.

Texas State continues Southland Conference action as it plays host to Texas-Arlington with the first of a three game series on Friday at 7:00 p.m.  The Bobcats and the Mavericks will conclude the series with a double-header on Saturday.  First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Bobcat Field.
