Cassidy Dresch singled up the middle to drive in Elliot Babcock from second in the top of the 10th as Texas State knocked off No. 1-ranked Texas 2-1 Wednesday at Disch-Falk Field.
With the win, Texas State improved to 28-17 heading into a Southland Conference series at Southeastern Louisiana beginning Friday. Texas dropped to 35-8.
Babcock struck out to leadoff the inning but reached first on a passed ball. Jose Rodriguez then laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Babcock into scoring position. Dresch then followed with his rip up the middle to drive in the game-winning run.
Texas State took a 1-0 lead in the third inning.
Doug Pearce and Dominic Ramos led off the frame with a walk and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Nolan Mast. Kyle Anson then grounded out to first to score Pearce and give the Bobcats the lead.
Texas would tie the game in the fourth on a solo homer by Will Crouch to left field.
Texas State reliever B.J. Boening gave up three hits and walked two in two innings of relief work to pick up the win and improve to 1-0 while Chris Hill shut down the Longhorns in the 10th to pick up his second save.
