Texas State Shutout by No. 8 Baylor

SAN MARCOS -The No. 8 Baylor softball team jumped out to an early lead on Texas State and cruised to a 7-0 win over the Bobcats in action at Bobcat Field. With the win, Baylor improved to 41-8 on the season as Texas State fell to 23-24 with the loss.

Texas State will return to action on Saturday when the Bobcats open a three-game series at home against Louisiana-Monroe at 1 p.m. The weekend series marks the final home games of the regular season for the Bobcats with the seasn finale scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. After Sunday's game, the softball program will honor its seniors.

Baylor scored two runs in the top of the first inning. After Kelly Osburn led off the game with a single, Chelsi Lake took a 3-2 pitch over the center field wall as the Lady Bears grabbed a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Bears struck again in the second, scoring two more runs to make the score 4-0. After a scoreless third, April Luce extended the Baylor lead to five when she led off the inning with a home run down the left field line to give the Lady Bears a 5-0 lead.

Baylor continued to build its lead in the fifth as Stephanie Pomes homered with one out in the inning as the Lady Bears moved to a 6-0 lead.

Lake put the final run on the board for the Lady Bears as she drove home Osburn from third with a sacrifice fly to center as Baylor took a 7-0 lead heading into the bottom of the inning.

The lead was more than enough for Sarah Hausner, who improved to 2-0 on the season after relieving Baylor starter Cristin Vitek in the fourth inning. In 2.1 innings of work, Hausner allowed no runs on two hits.

Katie Ann Trahan took the loss for Texas State as she fell to 20-17 on the season after allowing five runs on nine hits in four innings of work.
