COLLEGE STATION -
Through eight and two-thirds innings Tuesday night, it looked as if Texas State was going to send the Aggie faithful away disappointed, but Texas A&M rallied, taking the game to 11 innings and grabbing a 4-3 win.
Texas State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning, when Dawid Bendarek doubled home Luke Cannon, and Dominic Ramos returned the favor with an RBI single that plated Bednarek.
Texas A&M answered with one run in the bottom of the fifth, but Texas State got the run back in the top of the seventh on an error that scored Nolan Mast. Texas State led 3-1 heading into the ninth when Jason Baca came for the save. Baca retired the first two batters, then Ryan Hill got on base with a single, followed by a wild pitch to advance to second.
With two outs and one runner aboard, Cliff Pennington lined a ball into right field that hit and popped out of the glove of Texas State right fielder Jose Rodriguez, enabling a run to score and Pennington to get to third on the error. Pennington later scored on a single to right.
The tenth was scoreless, and after the Bobcats were held off the board again in the 11th, Texas A&M loaded the bases with just one out, and reserve third baseman Will Carpenter hit a fly ball to dead center field, which was enough to score Hill from third.
Jarod Garza pitched 1.2 innings of relief work and took the loss for the Bobcats, dropping his record to 2-3 on the season, while Clayton Turner improved his record to 3-2 with the win. Mast went three-for-six with a run scored to lead the Bobcats offensively, while Ramos turned in a two-for-six day that included an RBI.
The Bobcats' next action comes Friday, when Texas State entertains Sam Houston State in the first of three Southland Conference games at Bobcat Field. First pitch Friday is slated for 6:30 p.m.
