THIBODAUX, La. - Texas State scored in each of the contests first five innings in-route to its 7-4 win over Nicholls State Sunday at Lady Colonel Field. First baseman Kristin Gunter led Texas State, going two for three with one RBI and scoring the final run of the game in the top of the seventh inning.
Katie Ann Trahan pitched 4.2 innings, picking up her 20 win of the season. She allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and struck out six. Sarah Lancour came in for 2.1 inning of relief work, striking out two while allowing no runs on only one hit.
Nichole Wagner (8-14) took the loss for the Lady Colonels. She allowed two runs on four hits and had no strikeouts.
The Bobcats jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning. With one out Holly Britain singled to left. With two outs, Trahan doubled to left field driving in Britain. Then Trahan scored putting the `Cats up 2-0 on a single to left field from Rachael Bonetti.
The Lady Colonels cut the Bobcats lead in half in the bottom half of the frame. Lindsey Coleman hit a double into left field scoring Andrea Ground.
Texas State scored single runs in each of the next four innings for the 5-1 advantage. Left fielder Lauren Griffith, designated player Ashton Peters, Britain and Gunter scored in consecutive innings respectively.
Nicholls State went on a two out rally in its half of the fifth inning. The Lady Colonels added three runs, making the score 6-4 heading into the final innings.
Texas State will be playing host to No.8 Baylor for a single game on Thursday. First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m. at Bobcat Field.
